In the period of 23-24.05.2017. The geriatric center in Sarajevo held the International Workshop for the preparation of project proposals related to the neglect and abuse of older people.
Participants at the workshop were: professors from the Universities of Trondheim (Norway), Dublin (Ireland), Belgrade (Serbia), Zagreb (Croatia), Podgorica (Montenegro) and Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina) as well as representatives of the civil sector from Serbia (Serbian Red Cross), Croatia (Zagreb Red Cross, the Foundation "Common way", Montenegro (Association of nurses) and BiH (Gerontology center Sarajevo, Red Cross Society of BiH (RCSBIH)). On behalf of RCSBIH, the workshop was attended by Ms. Žaklina Ninković, a Coordinator for International Cooperation and Elderly care program.
The workshop was aimed at analyzing the situation regarding the neglect and abuse of older people in these countries, as well as defining steps to create a project that will deal with the education of university students and Red Cross volunteers in terms of working with the elderly and detection of cases of their neglect and abuse, as well as development of educational materials on the subject.
This was the first in a series of workshops and meetings that will follow in the coming period, and in the second project, it is planned to apply for a research project on the subject of neglect and abuse of older people, as well as exchange of students, staff and volunteers at the international level.
