A leadership meeting of National societies of Southeast Europe was held from 30-31.05.2017. in Zagreb, Croatia.
The meeting was hosted by Croatian Red Cross, and gathered Presidents, Secretary Generals and Coordinators for International Cooperation from thirteen National Societies of the Red Crosses of: Albania, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Croatia, Italy, Hungary, Macedonia, Romania, Slovenia, Serbia and Sweden, as well as IFRC representatives from Geneva and Budapest, representatives of ICRC, Geneva, Budapest and Belgrade, as well as a representative of EU Red Cross in Brussels. On behalf of RCSBIH, the meeting was attended by Mr. Rajko Lazic, President, Mr . Branko Leko, Secretary General and Ms Žaklina Ninković, a Coordinator for International Cooperation and Assistant Secretary General. The main objective of the meeting was strengthening and improving cooperation within RC/RC Movement at the regional level, particularly based on a new concept „Neighbors help first", which proved to be extremely effective during and after catastrophic floods in Croatia, Bosnia and Serbia in May 2014 . Participants also discussed the possibilities of applying with joint projects to EU funding, a joint support to one National Society from Southeast Europe region and its candidacy for a member of IFRC Governing board. They also discussed a joint support to one candidate for IFRC President from the region of Europe at the upcoming Statutory meetings (IFRC General Assembly and the Council of delegates) that will be held in Antalya, Turkey, in November 2017. On this occasion they had bilateral talks with all representatives of National Societies, ICRC, IFRC and the Office of EU Red Cross, and submitted the official invitation from RCSBIH for attendance at the upcoming ceremony of marking the moving of Technical service into its reconstructed building - historical headquarters in Sarajevo, which is planned for 14. July 2017, what was gladly accepted.
