The Red Cross Society of Bosnia and Herzegovina, within the framework of its mandate and public authority as defined by the Law and the Statute, in accordance with the principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntariness, unity and universality, has been made available to the authorities in assisting an increasing number of migrants, asylum seekers, ... with all their resources in two entity organizations, the Brčko District of BiH, 10 cantonal, 12 city and 131 municipal Red Cross organizations.
Human and material resources made available are :
- Accommodation, nutrition and hygiene supplies provided in defined locations by the government institutions, sister national Red Cross / Red Crescent Societies, International Federation of Red Cross / Red Crescent Societies, the International Committee of the Red Cross, domestic and foreign charitable and other organizations, institutions, individuals, ...
- Reception and distribution of humanitarian goods;
- Restoring family links and family reunification within the Tracing service program;
- Warning to mine risk
- Fight against trafficking in human beings;
- Psychosocial support;
- First aid, in support of institutions providing health care;
- Red Cross kitchens
RCSBIH headquarters activities
From the very beginning of the migration crisis in BiH, the Headquarters of RCSBIH has been continuously holding meetings with all relevant stakeholders on this issue (Ministry of Security of BiH, Ministry for Human Rights and Refugees BiH, UNHCR, IOM, ICRC ...) with the aim to find a systematic and adequate response to current migrant crisis.
Secretary General of RCSBIH, Mr. Branko Leko visited RC of Una Sana canton and Bihać Red Cross, as well as a reception center – Students center in Borići for a detailed insight into the current situation. He also monitored the departure of migrants from Sarajevo and their arrival at the reception camp in Salakovac where he talked to Mr. Edin Denji, camp manager and Mr. Alen Kajtaz, Secretary of Mostar Red Cross.
On May 30, 2018 in Sarajevo, an emergency meeting of RCSBIH senior management was held to discuss topics such as the role and responsibility of the Red Cross in migrant crisis.
Representatives of RCSBIH structure participated in coordination meetings at the headquarters of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Sarajevo, where information is regularly exchanged regarding the current and planned response to the refugee / migrant situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina. RCSBIH participates in the work of the Coordinating Body for Migration in Bosnia and Herzegovina, coordinated by the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Ministry for Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
RCSBIH appealed to the sister national Red Cross / Red Crescent Societies (Swiss Red Cross, Italian RC, Turkish RC , Coratian RC within the initiative "Neighbors assist first" for their assistance in the adequate response to migrant crisis.
The headquarters of RCSBIH has made leaflets and posters aimed at alerting migrants to the mine situation in Trebinje, Bihać, Velika Kladuša and Cazin, and in cooperation with the Mine Action Center in BiH and with ICRC financial support warning messages were made in English, Arabic and Farsi.
